Malucelli presents the balance sheet of LACTEC to the Commercial Association of Paraná

Last Tuesday night (20th), LACTEC CEO, Luiz Malucelli Neto, presented the balance sheet of the institute to the Commercial Association of Paraná. During the occasion, Malucelli spoke of the quality of LACTEC´s technical team, responsible for the success and respectability achieved in the sector of technological research and development.

Created in 1959, LACTEC is one of the most important technology institutes in South America, and its laboratories are references to various sectors and, often, the only ones of their type in Brazil and Latin America. Through activities developed primarily with electric utilities such as Copel, the institute has expertise recognized by all major utilities, generators and power distribution companies in Brazil.

"There are currently more than 50 large companies attended in this sector with studies, testing and technological research in the areas of performance they need," the director revealed. Due to knowledge exchange and accumulated experience, which has accredited the institute to develop new techniques and methods for diverse sectors of the economy, there has been interest in partnerships from large companies to develop research, such as Petrobrás, in projects of pollutant emission. Ford (which develops projects of car battery quality) along with Itaipu and Copel, also sought the institute for the development of a prototype of a re-charging station for electric vehicles. Already, Siemens Energy, from the United States, tests parts of their software in the laboratories of Paraná.

The government of Paraná, which has a focus on human development and the generation of jobs without leaving the side of industrial development and the creation of conditions for economic development, is also a strong partner, not only with Copel, but also with their Environment, Transport, Education, Science and Technology and Urban Development departments, beyond the development of projects with the Department of Roads (DER) and Ferroeste.

"These actions are part of the development guidelines ordered by the governor Roberto Requião with streamlining the structure and formalization of great partnerships," commented Malucelli.

Educational Area - The CEO confirmed that the education sector has also yielded good partnerships. Among the key programs of academic integration is one that has been signed with the Federal University of Paraná, which offers about 100,000 hours of training per year, and nearly 50 scholarships for master's and doctoral degrees in several areas.

There is also an understanding with the State University of Londrina and Ponta Grossa, with the aim of exchanging technical and scientific knowledge. The CEO reported that LACTEC has signed contracts of technological development with CPFL Energy (São Paulo), with Coelba (Electricity Company of Bahia), Bematech, Idiada (a Spanish company in the automotive field), Positivo Informática (Computing), Engevix Engineering, Italian Salini Construction, National Ironworks Company - CSN, Siemens and they are currently under negotiation with companies such as Vivo (Cellular) and Celesc (Power Plants of Santa Catarina).

In the Social area, Luiz Malucelli reported on the exchange of experiences promoted at a seminar hosted by LACTEC where they discussed with the government and entrepreneurs the various applications of the "Lei do Bem," a Brazilian law that encourages innovation and technological development through tax incentives, which was attended by some 200 businessmen from all over Brazil.

Financial balance - between the gains obtained together with the Administrative Management, Malucelli stressed the importance of obtaining the cancellation of administrative assessment for the non-payment of ISS, to the Curitiba Council, which left LACTEC clear of an administrative debt of approximately R$25 million, which would have impacted negatively on the financial statements and the functioning of the institute.

"In short, we recovered economic and financial balance, due to an agreement with Renault in Brazil and the development of LEME - Vehicle Emissions Laboratory, totaling R$1.44 million. The governor Roberto Requião also showed good sense to allocate further resources in the order of R$2.5 million to refurbish dozens of LACTEC laboratories that needed the investment to function" Malucelli finished.

Businessman Jonel Chede, former president of the ACP and member of the Supervisory Board of LACTEC was enthusiastic about the report by Malucelli, which according to him had the company moving in the right direction.

"After this presentation made by Luiz Malucelli, the Commercial Association of Paraná, who is an associate of LACTEC, feels more enthusiastic. The results are more impressive and reassuring in the current period than in the last three administrations. An example of this is that the current administration has solved a major problem, a tax debt with the city estimated at R$25 million. There was the Renault account that was close to R$1.5 million, and of course all of the management measures taken, such as the contracts signed that go beyond the boundaries of Paraná.

LACTEC returned to being what it really is and with the presentation of the accounts, the Commercial Association sees a bright future for the company that will be modernized with the funds received." Chede said. In 2008, LACTEC achieved a surplus R$699.317, due to the recovery effort promoted by the technical staff of the Institute.
