Newton Pohl Ribas assumes leadership of Lactec

Newton Pohl Ribas was sworn in on Wednesday 12th May as the new CEO of The Institute of Technology for Development (LACTEC). The new director said the goal now is to follow the guidance of Governor Orlando Pessuti and meet the commitments made with associated partners such as the Paraná State Energy Company (COPEL), the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), the Paraná Trade Association (ACP), the Federation of Industries of the State of Paraná (FIEP) and the Engineering Institute of Paraná (IEP), promoting an integration of the public policies of the Paraná state government through research for social and economic development.

He was nominated by Governor Orlando Pessuti and passed unanimously by the Assembly of Associates, composed of members of COPEL, UFPR, ACP, FIEP and IEP.

EXPERIENCE
- LACTEC provides services to various regions of Brazil including projects developed with Hydroelectric Dams, experience adquired through large projects such as the dams of Salto Osório, Salto Santiago, Foz do Areia, Segredo, Caxias and  Itaipu, in Paraná, as well as São Simão, in Minas Gerais, Barra Grande, Campos Novos, Ita and Machadinho, all in Santa Catarina, and Xingó on the São Francisco River, in Northeast Brazil. The Institute also has vast international experience.

Pohl Ribas praised the work of the professional staff at LACTEC that led to the Institute winning various prizes like the FINEP Award, which ranks the company as one of the largest in the technology area in the country. "Our team is comprised of approximately 500 technicians, many of them doctors that guarantee quality in developing research and products," he said.

CURRICULUM - Newton Pohl Ribas has already exercised other public positions, including as Secretary of Agriculture and Supply for the state of Paraná, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply in Brasilia-DF, Chairman of the Board of Claspar, Codapar, Ceasa, Emater and Iapar and was associate professor of the Department of Agrarian Sciences at the Federal University of Paraná in 1977 and Fellow of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq in Brasilia-DF.

The event was attended by Ney Caldas, the Secretary-Chief of Staff, who represented Paraná state governor Orlando Pessuti.
